In this installment of Project Nickel and Dime we tear out the front 4-lug drum brakes and install a new 5-lug disc brake system on Davis’ 1967 Ford Mustang. The kit we used was from Stainless Steel Brake Corporation and we show you step by step how to do it. Pretty straightforward and fairly easy to do. Thanks to Ray Gorman at SSBC for providing us with all the necessary parts for this conversion. Next time, we will be replacing the non-power dual reservoir master cylinder with a new brake booster assembly, new master cylinder, proportioning valve and brake pedal.
Also to note are the new tires and wheels required for converting from 4 lug to 5 lug. These wheels are 15 x 6, with P215 60R 15 tires for the front and P225 60R 15 for the rears. We’ll see how they look when they all hit the pavement later.
